Vehicle Ownership Verification

Automotive locksmith work affects access to and control of a vehicle. We verify ownership or authority before performing security-sensitive service.

Effective September 16, 2026

01

What we may request

Please have a valid government-issued photo ID and proof connecting you or the authorizing party to the vehicle. Depending on the job, acceptable documentation may include:

  • Current vehicle registration or title
  • Insurance documentation showing the vehicle and authorized party
  • Dealer inventory, auction, repair-order, or company-fleet documentation
  • Rental agreement or written authorization from the registered owner
02

Vehicle information must match

The VIN, plate, vehicle description, and ownership or authorization records must reasonably match the vehicle receiving service. Additional confirmation may be required when names differ, documents are inside a locked vehicle, or the customer is acting for a business or another person.

03

Locked documents

If ownership documents are locked inside the vehicle, we may perform a limited entry only after reviewing the available identification and circumstances. We may require further verification before cutting or programming a key.

04

Right to pause or refuse service

Key Brothers Locksmith may delay or decline service when identification, ownership, authority, or the circumstances cannot be reasonably verified. This protects vehicle owners, customers, technicians, dealerships, and the public.

05

Verification records

Information collected for verification may be documented and retained as part of the service record for fraud prevention, customer protection, business records, and legal compliance. It is handled according to our Privacy Policy.
